VIROQUA, Wis. – Vernon County is hosting the 2024 Bright Horizon Recovery Exercise
over the course of four weeks. The scenario for the exercise centered on heavy flooding affecting 31 counties and tribal nations across the state. Thousands of homes, businesses, and farms are damaged or destroyed by floodwaters.
This week was week two of the exercise and multiple agencies filled the lower level of the Viroqua City Hall to set up a Multi Agency Resource Centers (MARC) in separate jurisdictions throughout WEM Regions.
Throughout the exercise hypothetical residents or actors presented a variety of problems to the agencies present to see how the process works in those various scenarios to get assistance.
The exercise will conclude when state and local governments have demobilized recovery support and have returned to steady state operations.
The exercise objective was to assess the ability of the State of Wisconsin, NGOs, the Wisconsin Recovery Task Force, our stakeholders, and local jurisdictions to coordinate recovery.
