VIROQUA, Wis. – The Vernon County Energy District (VCED) today announced the inaugural Energy Independence Film Festival, an engaging and educational community event designed to highlight the practical benefits and real-world pathways to energy independence.
The festival will feature a curated series of seven short films, beginning with the VCED Mission Video, followed by films that demystify the energy transition and explore what energy independence truly means for individuals, families, and communities.
Together, the films examine the core benefits of energy independence, including:
- Security
- Savings
- Reliability
- Comfort
- Abundance
The program also addresses common motivations and barriers people face when considering energy upgrades and clean energy solutions.

Each film screening will be followed by a five‑minute Q&A session, giving attendees the opportunity to ask questions, share experiences, and deepen their understanding of how energy independence can work in their own lives.
Featured in the films are local community members and energy experts, including Kent McClurg, Brie Breckel, Karen Fishbach, Al Buss, Hickory Hill Motel, and Joshua Estep, offering relatable, real-world perspectives on the energy transition.
A key takeaway for attendees is that Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) incentives are still available, and VCED staff will be on hand to explain how community members can take advantage of these programs with personalized guidance.
Join us to learn how you can be part of creating a more affordable, comfortable, and resilient future.
