VIROQUA, Wis. – The Vernon County Sheriff’s Office announced at the end of last week that they are adding video calling capabilities to their dispatch operations that will greatly enhance dispatch services.
Sheriff Torgerson said the software called Prepared Live is built by the company Prepared, and it enables the 911 dispatch center to livestream, receive multimedia, and receive location from mobile callers in real-time. Torgerson says the addition of the technology suite will significantly improve our ability to respond to emergencies effectively and efficiently in the community.
Participation in video during a call is completely voluntary and consent of the caller is required. If the caller consents, they will receive a livestream link via text from 608-979-7200 enabling the dispatcher to activate live video upon click. It is important to note that the video call function also does not provide 911 dispatchers with access to the contents or settings of a caller’s phone.
Torgerson said the launch follows several weeks of preparation to ensure that the dispatch team can properly utilize the software.
Torgerson complimented the people behind the scenes that made the upgrade happen.
“I would like to thank Sergeant Bruce Olson for his hard work and coordination implementing Prepared 911 Live,” Torgerson said. “I would also like to thank his colleagues, Sheriff Clay Porter, Sheriff Michael Peterson, and Sheriff Brett Semingson for their input and success stories using Prepared 911 Live. Last, but certainly not least, I would like to thank our entire team of very highly dedicated 911 Dispatchers for all that you do. We are so glad to make this great tool available to you.”
