Update : Vernon County Sheriff releases details about false alarm active shooter incident

Stoddard, Wis. – Vernon County Sheriff Roy Torgerson reports on Tuesday, May 9 at approximately 9:30 a.m. the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office 9-1-1 Dispatch Center received a 9-1-1 call from a staff member at the Stoddard Elementary School. The caller reported an active shooter at the school in response to a message the caller received.

One of the deputy sheriffs that responded to the school arrived within four minutes. Collaborating closely with school staff, the deputy quickly determined there was no threat and all students and staff were safe.

The reason for the message is now the matter of investigation that continues by the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office and the De Soto Area School District. Upon conclusion, a final investigation report will be forwarded to Vernon County District Attorney Timothy J. Gaskell for review.

I would like to thank the De Soto Area School District for partnering with the Sheriff’s Office, training with a deep commitment for the safety of all students, staff, and visitors of all your campuses.
