UPDATE: Names Released
VIROQUA, Wis. – On Thursday, January 4 at 11:08 a.m. the Viroqua Police Department was notified of a two vehicle crash on Main Street at the entrance to Walmart.
The driver of the automobile involved that suffered fatal injuries has now been identified as 81-year-old Judith Phinney of Viroqua.
The driver of the pickup truck that collided with the Phinney vehicle was identified as 40-year-old Charles Kandler, also of Viroqua. Kandler did suffer injuries in that accident, and was transported to Vernon Memorial Hospital, and later released.

VIROQUA, Wis. – On Thursday, January 4, 2024 at 11:08 a.m., the Viroqua Police Department was notified of a two vehicle crash on Main Street at the Walmart Entrance.
An initial investigation indicates that an automobile was exiting the Walmart parking lot and failed to yield to a northbound pickup truck. The pickup collided with the automobile on the driver’s side. The driver of the automobile was transported to Vernon Memorial Hospital where they later died from their injuries. The driver of the truck had non-life threatening injuries and was later released from Vernon Memorial Hospital.
The names of the persons involved are not being released at this time, until family has been notified.
Assisting at the scene was the Viroqua Police Department, Vernon County Sheriff’s Department, Viroqua First Responders, Viroqua Fire Department, and Tri-State Ambulance.
