Two Viroqua properties damaged in separate weekend structure fires

VIROQUA, Wis. — The Viroqua Fire Department responded to two separate structure fires over the past few days, with both incidents resulting in property damage but no injuries.

The first incident occurred late Thursday in the Town of Viroqua. Firefighters were dispatched at 9:47 p.m. to a report of a structure fire at E7935 Cherry Grove Road. Upon arrival, crews observed smoke and flames coming from the building. The fire was contained and quickly brought under control, but the structure sustained major smoke and water damage. The department cleared the scene at approximately 1:43 a.m..

A second structure fire was reported Sunday afternoon within the city limits. At 1:27 p.m., the department was dispatched to 701 Power Drive, where arriving units found heavy smoke coming from the structure. The blaze was contained to its point of origin and quickly extinguished, causing minor smoke and water damage. Firefighters cleared the scene at 4:47 p.m..

Fire Chief Chad Buros confirmed that there were no injuries to civilians or firefighters in either incident. The origin and cause of both fires remain under investigation.

Multiple local agencies provided mutual aid during the incidents. The Westby Fire Department, LaFarge Fire Department, Vernon County Sheriff’s Department, and Xcel Energy responded to Thursday’s fire. Sunday’s response was assisted by the Westby and Viola fire departments, the Viroqua Police Department, Viroqua Utilities, and Tri-State Ambulance.
