Two vehicle accident on State Highway 27 caused by drifting snow

VIROQUA, Wis. – Sheriff Roy Torgerson reports on Sunday evening, January 21, at approximately 6:30 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office 911 Dispatch Center was notified of a two-vehicle collision on State Highway 27, near Traastad Road, rural Viroqua in the town of Franklin.

Aric A. Kast, 24, of Onalaska, Wis. traveling north on State Highway 27 and encountered high winds and drifting snow. The Kast vehicle crossed into the southbound lane and struck a southbound vehicle driven by Christopher D. Barnes, 36, of Viroqua. All occupants were wearing seat-belts, and no injuries were reported.

The incident remains under investigation.

Assisting the Sheriff’s Office were the Viroqua Fire Dept. and the Vernon County Highway Department.

Sheriff Torgerson would like to thank all emergency personnel including, but not limited to 911 dispatchers, deputy sheriffs, police officers, firefighters, emergency medical responders, emergency medical technicians, paramedics, and highway maintenance workers for braving the recent, extreme weather conditions.
