Two people injured when truck strikes tree near Hillsboro

ELROY / HILLSBORO, Wis. – The Vernon County Sheriff’s Office reports two people were injured when their pickup truck lost control near Hillsboro on Saturday and struck a tree. According to the Sheriff’s report on Saturday, Dec. 21, at approximately 11:30 a.m a pickup operated by Lewis E. Bontrager, 18, of rural Elroy lost control after negotiating a corner and left the roadway, striking a tree on the opposite side of the road on Lovers Lane in the town of Hillsboro.

Both occupants of the pickup were injured and the passenger 18-year-old Kailey A. Miller of rural Elroy was extricated from the vehicle by the Hillsboro Fire Department. Both were transported to Gundersen St. Joseph’s Hospital by Hillsboro Area Ambulance. Both were treated and released.

In addition to Hillsboro Fire and Hillsboro Area Ambulance, Hillsboro Police also assisted the Sheriff’s Office at the scene.

Winter road conditions and speed both appeared to be contributing factors but the crash remains under investigation.
