Two people injured on Labor Day in Vernon County motorcycle crash

CHASEBURG, Wis. — Two people were seriously injured Monday night in a motorcycle crash in rural Vernon County, authorities said.

The crash occurred around 9:30 p.m. near the intersection of State Highway 162 and Petticoat Junction in the Town of Hamburg, according to Vernon County Sheriff Roy Torgerson.

According to the report Benjamin Tyler Schmidt, 23, of Chaseburg, was driving a motorcycle north with passenger Lilly Ann Doudna, 20, of Soldiers Grove, when he lost control while navigating a curve. Both were ejected from the motorcycle and sustained serious injuries.
Neither Schmidt nor Doudna was wearing a helmet, protective clothing, or eye protection at the time of the crash, Torgerson said.

They were transported to Emplify Health by Gundersen in La Crosse by Gundersen Tri-State Ambulance.

The Coon Valley Fire Department and Coon Valley First Responders assisted at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
