WESTBY, Wis. – The Vernon County Sheriff’s Office says two people were injured on Saturday as the result of a two vehicle crash at an intersection where four townships meet. Vernon County Sheriff Roy Torgerson reports the accident happened at approximately 7 a.m. at a four-way intersection at the corner of the towns of: Christiana, Coon, Jefferson, and Viroqua, in rural Westby, Wis.
According to the Sheriff 25-year-old Georgie Fitzpatrick, of Richland Center, Wis. was traveling north on Three Chimney Road approaching the intersection controlled by a stop sign for the north/south traffic. Fitzpatrick reported stopping, but said he was unable to see traffic from the left due to an obstruction. As Fitzpatrick entered the intersection, he was struck by a vehicle driven by Korey Nickelas Hawkins, 30, of Viroqua, Wis. The Hawkins vehicle was traveling east on Tri-State Road.
The Sheriff states that Fitzpatrick was wearing a seat-belt and did not report any injuries. Neither Hawkins, nor his passenger, Hannah Lynn Hawkins, 23, of Tomah, Wis. were wearing seat-belts and both sustained injuries. Airbags deployed in both vehicles. They were both transported to Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, Wis. by Gundersen Tri-State Ambulance.
The crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.
