BRIDGEPORT, Wis. — Two Iowa residents were arrested Sunday following a shoplifting report that led to the discovery of controlled substances and stolen merchandise in the Town of Bridgeport.
Crawford County Sheriff Dale McCullick reports that deputies responded to a retail theft complaint at a store in Nathan Plaza. Upon arrival, law enforcement contacted Molly Schlegel, 38, of Postville, and Nathan Bantz, 39, of Elgin.

During the investigation, methamphetamine was found in Schlegel’s purse, while Bantz was found in possession of hypodermic needles containing methamphetamine and marijuana. A K9 unit from the Prairie du Chien Police Department alerted to additional substances in the suspects’ vehicle, which was subsequently searched. Officers recovered methamphetamine smoking devices, plastic baggies, a digital scale, and stolen merchandise from another store.
Schlegel was arrested on charges including possession and intent to deliver methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and retail theft. Bantz faces similar charges, along with possession of marijuana (second offense), operating under the influence of a restricted controlled substance, resisting arrest, and multiple traffic violations.
The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Prairie du Chien Police Department and Milo’s Towing Service.
All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
