Two Amish men injured when buggy struck by car near Chaseburg

CHASEBURG, Wis. – Vernon County Sheriff Roy Torgerson reports a motor vehicle collided with a horse-drawn vehicle on Monday afternoon, August 26, 2024, in rural Chaseburg.

According to the Sheriff’s report, Kurtis John Woodhouse, 30, of rural Genoa, Wis. was operating a passenger vehicle traveling southeast on County Road KK, northwest of Waldenberger Lane, near the border of the towns of Harmony and Hamburg.  Woodhouse looked away for a moment and collided with the rear of a horse-drawn vehicle driven by Reuben A. Miller, 34, of rural Chaseburg.

Reuben Miller and his passenger, Andrew M. Miller, 28, also of Chaseburg, were both injured and transported to Gundersen Health System, in La Crosse, Wis., by private vehicle.  They were both released Monday evening.

The horse involved was treated by a veterinarian and expected to make a full recovery.

Responding to the scene with the Sheriff’s Office were the Genoa-Harmony Fire Department and first responders; and Gundersen Tri-State Ambulance.

The crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.
