Traffic flagger seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle in a construction zone near La Farge

May 15, 2026

LA FARGE, Wis. — A traffic flagger was seriously injured Wednesday evening after being struck by a vehicle in a highway construction zone in rural Vernon County, authorities said.

The crash occurred about 7 p.m. on May 13 on State Highway 82 near North Fairview Road in the Town of Webster, according to the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said Daline Jo Brown, 41, of Viroqua, was driving a passenger car westbound on the highway when she struck Sean Gregory Albrecht, 38, of Racine. Albrecht was working as a flagger and signaling for traffic to slow as part of ongoing road construction operations.

Albrecht sustained severe injuries and was initially transported by La Farge Area Ambulance. Paramedics from Gundersen Tri-State Ambulance later intercepted the ambulance, and Albrecht was taken to Vernon Health in Viroqua. He was subsequently flown by air ambulance to Gundersen Health System, where he was receiving further treatment.

Officials said pavement milling work was underway at the time of the incident. Albrecht was employed by a traffic control company based in West Chicago.

Emergency responders at the scene included the La Farge Fire Department and La Farge Area Ambulance. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office assisted with crash reconstruction efforts, and Viroqua police officers helped deputies at the hospital.

The crash remains under investigation by the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Madison Area Office of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation has also been notified and may conduct a separate review.

“I appreciate the outpouring of support from our community,” Vernon County Sheriff Roy Torgerson said in a statement. “Continued prayers for the Albrecht family and everyone involved are humbly appreciated.”
