COON VALLEY, Wis. – Vernon County Sheriff Roy Torgerson reports on Wednesday, May 8, at approximately 12:00 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office 911 Dispatch Center was notified of a two-
vehicle crash that occurred at the intersection of US Highway 14 and Brinkman Ridge
Road, rural Coon Valley in the town of Hamburg.
According the Sheriff’s Office Sarah L. Leisso, 41, of Coon Valley was driving west on US
Highway 14 and collided with the rear of a pickup driven by Samuel C. Hansen, 64, of rural Stoddard, Wis. Hansen was stopped on the roadway waiting for eastbound traffic to clear, preparing to make a left turn onto Brinkman Ridge Road.
The Sheriff’s Office says Leisso was extricated from her vehicle by the Coon Valley Fire Department. Both Leisso and Hansen were transported to Gundersen Health System, in La Crosse, Wis., by Gundersen Tri-State Ambulance. A child in the Leisso vehicle sustained minor injuries, but did not require transport.
Both travel lanes were closed for approximately forty-five minutes and one lane was
closed for an additional forty-five minutes.
Assisting the Sheriff’s Office at the scene were the Coon Valley Fire Department, Coon
Valley First Responders, Gundersen Tri-State Ambulance, and the Wisconsin State
Patrol. The crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.
