State Sen. Brad Pfaff announces re-election bid for new 32nd State Senate District

LA CROSSE, WI — Today, Senator Brad Pfaff (D-Onalaska) launched his re-election campaign for the new 32nd State Senate District outside a local childcare facility alongside community members, including union workers, farmers, and seniors.

Pfaff said he is running to ensure BadgerCare is expanded, that insulin and prescription drug prices are capped, to ensure the state continues investing in manufacturing, technology and public schools. To improve access to affordable childcare and to codify Roe v. Wade into state law.

“I’m running for re-election because we need a State Senator who will champion working families by growing our economy, lowering costs, supporting our public schools, and defending access to reproductive healthcare,” said Pfaff. “I know we can work together and find common ground to make a better life for Wisconsinites. That is what I’ve fought for in the State Senate, and it’s why I’m running for re-election to keep up that fight.”

Pfaff grew up on his family’s dairy farm in northern La Crosse County and has dedicated his life to serving the people of Western Wisconsin. He has held leadership positions at state and federal agencies protecting family farmers, consumers, and rural communities and has served one term in the State Senate fighting for working families.

Senator Pfaff said he already has the support of a number of a number of Wisconsin public servants:

Lieutenant Governor Sara Rodriguez

Attorney General Josh Kaul

Secretary of State Sarah Godlewski

Former U.S. Representative Ron Kind (WI-03)

Wisconsin Representatives Steve Doyle (AD-94) and Jill Billings (AD-95)

Pfaff assumed office on January 4, 2021, winning against Republican candidate Dan Kapanke. Kapanke had previously served as the State Senator of the 32nd district from 2004 until his recall in 2011.

Pfaff ran against Republican Derrick Van Orden in 2022 for Wisconsin’s 3rd Congressional District. Van Orden won that seat by about 12,000 votes.

Pfaff will be running this time under the newly-drawn state legislative maps where Senate District 32 will encompass all of Vernon County and La Crosse County, and parts of Monroe County and Trempealeau County. The previous maps for District 32 didn’t include any parts of Trempealeau County and included all of Crawford County. Crawford County will now be included in Senate District 17.

The 32nd State Senate District is made up of the 94th, 95th and 96the Assembly Distrcts

Pfaff’s current term ends on January 6, 2025.

At his announcement yesterday Pfaff touted the work he has done to help alleviate Wisconsin’s childcare crisis, but said the work is far from over.

“More work needs to be done,” Pfaff said. “That is why I am asking voters for an opportunity to go back to Madison and represent their interests in the Wisconsin senate so this region can get its fair share.”

The primary is scheduled for August 13. So far there are no other candidates announced for the 32nd District seat.
