WESTBY, Wis. – The the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that several people were sent to area hospitals after a multi-vehicle collision on the outskirts of Westby on Friday.
According to Vernon County Sheriff Roy Torgerson, around 1:45 p.m. on Friday, 76-year-old John Ray Mc Masters of Austin Minn., was traveling north on State Highway 27 and reported being distracted by a dog inside the vehicle. Mc Masters was quickly approaching the rear of a northbound truck and trailer that was slowed or stopped in preparation for a left turn into a Westby area business. Mc Masters suddenly steered right onto the shoulder, avoided a rear-eonnd collision with the truck and trailer, but lost control of his vehicle.
The report goes on to say the Mc Masters vehicle crossed the centerline, and struck a southbound vehicle driven by Travis Gene Buros, 50, of Middleton, Wis. The Buros vehicle overturned and came to rest upside down along the west side of the roadway.
Injured in the crash were two passengers in the Buros vehicle, Charlotte A. Buros, 73, and Dianne Gail Anderson, 79, both of Westby. They were transported to Gundersen Health System, in La Crosse, Wis, by Gundersen Tri-State Ambulance.
Also injured was John Mc Masters and he was transported to Vernon Memorial Healthcare, in Viroqua, Wis., by La Farge Area Ambulance. The dog in the Mc Masters vehicle was transported to the Driftless Humane Society in Viroqua.
Assisting the Sheriff’s Office at the scene were the Westby Police Department, Westby-Christiana Fire Department, Westby First Responders, Gundersen Tri-State Ambulance, and La Farge Area Ambulance.
The crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.
