Sen. Pfaff supports cannabis legalization in Wisconsin

Feb. 4, 2026

MADISON, Wis. – Earlier this week Senator Brad Pfaff (D – Onalaska) announced his support for recently introduced legislation to fully legalize cannabis in the State of Wisconsin, citing broad bipartisan public support for the policy and vast economic benefit for our local communities. Senator Brad Pfaff released the following statement:

“Legalizing cannabis will create good-paying jobs, support local farmers and small businesses, and generate the revenue our rural communities need to support schools, roads, and healthcare access.”

Neighboring states have already acted, and unfortunately, Wisconsin is being left behind. In 2024 alone, Illinois generated $490 million in cannabis tax revenue. Under the newly introduced Democratic proposal, Wisconsin could generate up to $300 million annually within five years, including more than $60 million for local municipalities to fund essential services.

“I remain committed to establishing a regulated market that provides the opportunity for small businesses and growers to thrive while also prioritizing public safety.”
