Sen. Johnson introduces Seventh Circuit Court nominee in Senate Judiciary confirmation hearing

Sept. 17, 2025

WASHINGTON — U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) formally introduced Rebecca Taibleson to the Senate Judiciary Committee this week as President Trump’s nominee to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, praising her legal credentials and dedication to constitutional principles.

Johnson said Taibleson is a longtime federal prosecutor in Wisconsin, currently serves as Assistant U.S. Attorney and appellate chief in the Eastern District. Johnson described her as “highly qualified for this judgeship,” citing her academic and professional record.

“She will apply the law as written,” Johnson said. “Praise for Rebecca’s legal mind and commitment to the Constitution is numerous and glowing.”

Taibleson graduated magna cum laude from Yale College and Yale Law School. She clerked for then-Judge Brett Kavanaugh on the D.C. Circuit and for Justice Antonin Scalia on the U.S. Supreme Court. After practicing civil litigation at Kirkland & Ellis, she joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office in 2016.

During the Trump administration, Taibleson served on detail as Assistant to the Solicitor General, where she argued two criminal cases before the U.S. Supreme Court and briefed dozens more. Johnson also noted her work defending the President’s First Amendment rights related to social media.

Johnson said in her role as appellate chief, Taibleson has prosecuted a wide range of cases, including murder, drug and human trafficking, child sexual abuse, bank fraud, and embezzlement. Johnson commended her efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic, when she successfully opposed early release petitions for incarcerated individuals.

“Just as noteworthy as her qualifications is her devotion to family and faith,” Johnson added, referencing Taibleson’s husband and three children.

The Seventh Circuit covers Wisconsin, Illinois, and Indiana. If confirmed, Taibleson would fill a vacancy on one of the nation’s most influential appellate courts.

Johnson concluded his remarks with a call for bipartisan support: “I strongly encourage everyone to vote in favor of her confirmation.”
