Rural Viroqua home destroyed by fire

VIROQUA, Wis. – The Viroqua Fire Department reports despite multiple fire departments responding on Tuesday night a rural Viroqua home was completely destroyed by fire. The report states that no one was in the structure when fire crews responded to S55760 Ellefson Road in the Town of Franklin, just before 10 p.m.

When fire crews arrived on scene they reported heavy smoke and flames were visible coming from the residence. The report says the fire was brought under control quickly and extinguished, but the structure sustained heavy damage and is considered a complete loss. No other structures were damaged.

The report goes on to say the department left the scene at approximately 1:31 a.m. There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters.

The origin and cause of the fire is under investigation.

Assisting Departments included the Westby Fire Department, Viola Fire Department, Vernon County Sheriff’s Department, Tri-State Ambulance, Town of Franklin, and Vernon Electric Cooperative.
