Readstown man injured when vehicle lands in ditch near Cook Hill Road

VIROQUA, Wis. – Vernon County Sheriff Roy Torgerson reports on Tuesday, June 4,
at approximately 3:45 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office 911 Dispatch Center was notified of a
single-vehicle crash that occurred on State Highway 56, at the intersection of Cook Hill
Road in the town of Viroqua.

According to the Sheriff’s reporter Robert Lowell Smith, 71, of rural Readstown, Wis. was
traveling west on State Highway 56 and lost control during an apparent to turn
left onto Cook Hill Road. The vehicle traveled down an embankment and came to rest in
a ditch.

Smith sustained minor injuries, was evaluated at the scene, but declined medical
transport.

Assisting the Sheriff’s Office were the Viroqua Police Department, Viroqua Fire
Department, Viroqua Emergency Medical Responders, and Gundersen Tri-State
Ambulance.

The crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office
