City of Viroqua announces public input opportunities for Viroqua’s proposed comprehensive plan

 July 3, 2026

After an 18 month process the City of Viroqua is one step closer to updating the City’s Comprehensive Plan, a document last updated in 2007.  In September 2024 the City Council approved hiring a firm to lead city staff, elected officials, and the public through the process of updating the document.

A Comprehensive Plan takes a long-term, big-picture view of the city’s future and makes recommendations for policies and strategies that will help realize the community vision, addressing key areas such as land use, housing, transportation, economic development, and others. The city is currently seeking comments from the public about the draft plan.

Viroqua Mayor Krista Browne, “Viroqua’s Comprehensive Plan is the backbone of our community planning effort. It outlines the challenges our community is facing, identifies solutions, and provides guidance to the appointed and elected officials on planning-related decisions for years to come. The best Comprehensive Plan for Viroqua is one that has the support of our broader community, and is a living document that reflects, grows, and changes with our community. We want your feedback & input to ensure you are represented and served.

A critical component of the process used to develop a Comprehensive Plan is incorporating public input. Mayor Krista Browne will be hosting several sessions where you can review and discuss the plan and offer comments.  Meet the Mayor on:

  • July 4 and July 11 at the Viroqua Farmer’s Market
  • July 8 from 1:00-3:00 in the lobby of the McIntosh Memorial Library
  • July 9 from 4:00-6:00 in the lobby of the McIntosh Memorial Library
  • July 10 from 1:00-3:00 in the lobby of the McIntosh Memorial Library

You can also schedule an appointment with Mayor Browne or send your feedback directly to mayor@viroqua-wisconsin.com

A Public Hearing on the draft plan is scheduled for Wednesday, July 15th, 2026, at the Plan Commission meeting at 5:00pm at Viroqua City Hall.

Residents may review the document as hard copies are available at Viroqua City Hall and McIntosh Memorial Library.  The plan is also available to view on the city website.

The updated plan will guide the growth, development, and preservation of the community over the next 20 years.
