VIROQUA, Wis. –The City of Viroqua is completing its first ever Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan, and is asking the public to share their ideas.
“The city is currently operating without a plan for where bicycling and walking facilities should be located,” said Sarah Grainger, the Viroqua City Engineer.
“We’ve already taken steps to implement trails, bike lanes, and more visible crosswalks around the community. Now we want to hear what people think of these facilities, and where they would like to see them connected.”
The city is especially interested in identifying projects that will make it safer for children to walk or bike to school or do other activities. There are three opportunities for people to share input throughout the month of February:
1. Go to the project website (viroquabikepedplan.com) to take an online survey. The survey will be open through Thursday, February 29th.
2. Visit the McIntosh Memorial Library (205 S Rock Avenue), where paper copies of the survey will be available, also through Thursday, February 29th.
3. Attend the open house on Thursday, February 15th any time between 4:30pm and 6:30pm at Viroqua City Hall (124 W Decker Street). At the open house, people can share ideas with members of the project team and complete the survey.
After the public shares input, a plan will be drafted and reviewed by an advisory committee, which was created by Mayor Justin Running. The advisory committee will recommend a plan to the Viroqua City Council for their consideration and approval by summer 2024
