LA FARGE, Wis. — The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) has scheduled a public involvement meeting next year regarding the planned reconstruction of State Highway 131 in Vernon County.
The meeting is set for Dec. 16, 2025, from 5 to 6:30 p.m., at the La Farge Community Center, located at 202 N State Street, La Farge. The purpose of the meeting is to inform the public about the scope and timeline of the planned improvements for the segment of State Highway 131 running from the Richland/Vernon County line north to State Highway 82.
The reconstruction project focuses on replacing deteriorating pavement along State Highway 131. Proposed improvements include the removal and replacement of two miles of pavement. Additionally, the project incorporates pavement marking and rumble strips, upgrades to the guardrail system, culvert replacement, and the installation of curb ramps at Snow Street in La Farge.
WisDOT anticipates construction for the project will begin in 2028. The project is currently in the design phase.
While the work is underway, WIS 131 will require closure for a portion of the construction timeline. During the closure, traffic will be directed to detours utilizing State Highway 56 and State Highway 82. Remaining construction will be completed using flagging operations, single lane closures, and shoulder closures.
For questions about the project, the public may contact WisDOT Project Manager Nathan Lipinski, P.E., at (608) 246-3880 or nathan.lipinski@dot.wi.gov. Communications Manager Hannah Punzel of the WisDOT Southwest Region is also available at (608) 246-7907.
