A public hearing has been scheduled for the final draft of the city’s Comprehensive Plan. The hearing will be held on Tuesday, August 18 at 6:30pm during the regular meeting of the Common Council in the lower level community room of City Hall.
A Comprehensive Plan takes a long-term, big-picture view of the city’s future and makes recommendations for policies and strategies that will help realize the community vision, addressing key areas such as land use, housing, transportation, economic development, and others.
The city published the final draft of the plan for two weeks ahead of a public hearing on July 15, 2026, at the Plan Commission meeting. The plan was available online and in print at City Hall and the McIntosh Memorial Library. The mayor also held office hours and meetings with residents and met with residents at the farmer’s market for a two-week period.
The public provided feedback, questions and recommendations during office hours, in person, and at the Plan Commission meeting on July 15. The Plan Commission approved sending the final draft to the Common Council for discussion and possible adoption during their upcoming August 18 meeting. The Commission also appointed a team to update the document with input from the public.
“The public’s feedback is integral to the process, and we are grateful to the number of engaged participants over the last year. Your feedback and input helped get this plan to the final step before adoption” said Viroqua Mayor Krista Browne.
The final version of the Comprehensive Plan is available for viewing on the city website at www.viroqua-wisconsin.com. A printed copy is available at City Hall.
The updated plan will guide the growth, development, and preservation of the community over the next 20 years.
