RICHLAND COUNTY, Wis. — One person suffered severe injuries in a two-vehicle crash Monday afternoon at the intersection of U.S. Highway 14 and Twin Bluffs Drive, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were dispatched to the scene at about 3:36 p.m. after receiving reports of a crash involving two vehicles, with one driver ejected from a sport utility vehicle. Richland Center Fire Department and Richland County EMS also responded.
Investigators said the SUV was attempting to enter U.S. Highway 14 from Twin Bluffs Drive when it was struck by an eastbound commercial truck. Witnesses told authorities the SUV failed to come to a complete stop at the intersection before entering the highway.
The SUV driver, Andres Ixta, 38, of Gotham, Wisconsin, suffered severe injuries and was airlifted from Richland Hospital to UW Hospital by UW Med Flight. Authorities said the driver had been ejected during the crash.
The commercial truck driver, Wesley Nelson, 59, of Dodgeville, cooperated with the investigation, the sheriff’s office said.
Authorities also reported that the SUV had been reported to dispatch shortly before the crash for operating on a gravel bicycle trail between Gotham and Twin Bluffs.
The Wisconsin State Patrol assisted with crash reconstruction and a commercial vehicle inspection. U.S. Highway 14 remained closed for several hours while investigators processed the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the Richland County Sheriff’s Office and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
Responding agencies included the Wisconsin State Patrol, Richland Center Fire Department, Richland County EMS, UW Med Flight and a local towing service.
