One person injured in two vehicle crash near De Soto

DE SOTO, Wis. – Vernon County Sheriff Roy Torgerson reports one person was injured in a two vehicle crash in rural De Soto about 4:30, Monday afternoon.

According to the Sheriff’s report the Arthur Lee Moore, 73, of rural Viroqua, Wis., was operating a pickup truck south on Fortner Road, approaching the intersection of Highway 82.  Moore entered the intersection and struck a westbound pickup truck driven by Rhiannon Crystal Kunert, 46, of rural De Soto.

The report states the front of the Moore vehicle struck the right side of the Kunert vehicle causing the Kunert vehicle to roll several times and come to rest, upright, along the south side of Highway 82.

Rhiannon Kunert was injured and transported to Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse, Wis., by Gundersen Tri-State Ambulance.  She is expected to be released on Tuesday.

There were two passengers in the Moore vehicle. None of the them reported any injuries.

Assisting the Sheriff’s Office were the Wheatland Fire Department and Wheatland First Responders.

Although off-duty and driving a personally owned vehicle, Rhiannon Kunert is a Vernon County Sheriff’s Office employee and Sheriff Torgerson requested that a deputy from the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office respond to the scene.

The incident remains under investigation by the Crawford and Vernon County Sheriff’s Offices.
