One person injured in truck and trailer crash near Liberty Pole

VIROQUA, Wis.  – Vernon County Sheriff Roy Torgerson reports a single-vehicle crash occurred on Sunday morning, December 29, at approximately 8:45 a.m., in the town of Franklin.

Robert Clarence Allan, 86, of rural Gays Mills was operating a heavy-duty pickup truck, attached to a gooseneck livestock trailing traveling south on State Highway 27, between Viroqua and Liberty Pole when the vehicle encountered ice on the roadway and the operator lost control.  The vehicle went off the right side of the roadway and struck a utility pole.

Rober Allan was not wearing a seatbelt, sustained injuries, but refused medical transport.

The livestock trailer was empty at the time of the crash.

Assisting the Sheriff’s Office at the scene were the Viroqua Fire Department, Viroqua Emergency Responders, Gundersen Tri-State Ambulance, Vernon County Highway Department, and Vernon Electric Cooperative.

The highway was fully closed for only approximately five minutes.

The investigation continues.
