Natural gas leak detected, fixed, at La Farge natural gas substation

LA FARGE, Wis. – Sheriff Roy Torgerson reports on Wednesday night, November 22 at approximately 10:00 p.m., a Sheriff’s Deputy was responding to an unrelated call for service when the strong odor of natural gas was detected near the natural gas substation, just west of the village of La Farge, in the town of Stark.

The La Farge Fire Department was called to the scene with assistance from the Viroqua Fire Department for specialized leak-detection equipment. A leak was confirmed and personnel from Midwest Natural Gas repaired the leak. There were no injuries reported and all units left the scene by 11:30 p.m.

The incident remains under investigation by the La Farge Fire Department and the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Torgerson would like to thank the alert deputy for recognizing and reporting the leak, and for all our emergency services, especially our volunteers
