Motorcyclist killed, passenger hospitalized in Crawford County crash

CRAWFORD COUNTY, Wis. – The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office reports a motorcyclist from La Crosse was killed and his passenger sent to the hospital as the result of trying to avoid a rear end collusion on State Highway 35 over the weekend.

Sheriff Dale McCullickk reports that on Sunday, Sept. 1, at approximately 5:21 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office was notified of a motorcycle crash on State Highway 35 near Bluegill Drive in the Township of Freeman.

The Sheriff’s reports states that witnesses reported northbound vehicles were slowing to a stop for a vehicle waiting to make a left turn onto Bluegill Drive from State Hwy. 35, and a northbound motorcycle came upon the slowing vehicles. Zemple sustained minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital. Keleman was airlifted from the scene, and later succumbed to his injuries. The report states neither Keleman or Zemple were wearing helmets or protective gear.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Ferryville Fire Department, Ferryville First Responders, Desoto Fire Department, Desoto First Responders, Wheatland Fire Department, Ocooch Mountain Rescue, Gundersen Ambulance, Gundersen Air, and Bob’s Towing Service.

This crash remains under investigation by the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office.
