More local races coming up on the April ballot

We brought you the Vernon County Board of Supervisors races earlier this week. You can read about those races here. These are some of the races happening in other parts of the county.

In the City of Viroqua, Mayor Justin Running (incumbent) is facing challenger Patrick Robbins.

Incumbent alderpersons on the ballot that are all running unopposed:

Ward 2 – Andrew Bergum

Ward 6 – Cyndy Hubbard

Ward 8 – Kristal Welter

Ward 4 Emma Hood is running for the seat currently held by Tanja Birke who filed a notification of non-candidacy in December.


In the City of Westby there is only one contested race for Westby City Council on the spring ballot, and that is in Ward 1.

Mark Hendrickson (incumbent) is running against Joel Strangstalien.

Ward 3 – Phil Strand (incumbent) is running unopposed is .

Ward 2 – Sue Kastensen is running unopposed. Sue Jacobson, currently representing Ward 2, is not running for election as she moved to another ward.


The Westby Area School District will have two school board seats and a $1.2 million operating referendum on the ballot.

Craig Johnson (incumbent)seat #3 Westby area representative will run unopposed.

Seat 5 – Gary Brueggen and Eric Evenstad are running at-large. Current representative Andy Lipski filed a notification of non-candidacy.

Voters in the Westby School District will also see an operating referendum for $1.2 million/year for three years on the ballot. The current $1.8 million operating referendum ends this year.


In the Village of Coon Valley, three candidates are running for three positions on the Board of Trustees.

Incumbents Amy Stakston-Wiedemann and Russ Cornford are running again.

Matthew Helgerson is also running.

Mary Wruck filed non-candidacy papers.
