ONTARIO, Wis. — A Minnesota woman was injured Sunday morning in a motorcycle crash in rural Vernon County, authorities said.

The crash was reported at about 10:45 a.m. on State Highway 33 near Taylor Valley Road in the Town of Whitestown, according to Vernon County Sheriff Roy Torgerson.

Authorities said Sheila Marie Stewart, 57, of Shafer, Minnesota, was riding a motorcycle when she lost control. The motorcycle slid onto its side and came to rest against a guardrail.

Stewart was injured and transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment. Officials said she was wearing a full-face helmet and other protective gear at the time of the crash.

Responding agencies included the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office, the Ontario Fire Department and the Ontario Area Ambulance Service. A medical helicopter was initially dispatched under an automatic response protocol but was later canceled.

The crash remains under investigation by the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office.
