Minnesota man injured in snowmobile crash in rural La Farge

LA FARGE, Wis. – The Vernon County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Tuesday afternoon, January 16, at approximately 3:30 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office 911 Dispatch Center received a report of a snowmobile crash that occurred on a snowmobile trail, on private property, north of Plum Run Road, in rural La Farge in the town of Stark.

According to the Sheriff’s report 67-year-old Gordon Mc Connell of Apple Valley, Minn. lost control of his snowmobile while negotiating a curve. The snowmobile went off the trail and struck a tree. Mc Connel was ejected a very short distance from the snowmobile. Mc Connell was wearing a helmet and adequate clothing for the cold climate. Mc Connell’s foot was caught in the running board of the snowmobile and that contributed to his injuries as he fell beside the snowmobile.

The Sheriff’s office says the accident happened in a remote area and staging area was set up about 1-1/2 miles from the scene. Emergency personnel from the La Farge Fire Department, La Farge Area Ambulance, with the assistance of a tracked UTV and sled from the Viola Fire Department worked meticulously to transport Mc Connell to the staging area.

Mc Connel was then transported to Vernon Memorial Healthcare by La Farge Area Ambulance. Mc Connell was later transferred to Gundersen Health System, in La Crosse, WI. He was treated and later released.

The incident remains under investigation by the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
