VIROQUA, Wis. – Vernon County Sheriff Roy Torgerson reports that a Minn. man was injured when he rode an off road motorcycle off a concrete spillway at a dam in a restricted area of a Vernon County park on June 7.
Torgerson said on Sunday, July 7, at approximately 3:00 p.m., Jonathon Scott Wickus, 41, of Rollingstone, Minn. was operating an off road motorcycle on County Road Y, rural Viroqua/Chaseburg, Wis. when he entered a restricted area of the Runge Hollow Dam, in the Bad Axe River Watershed. Sheriff Torgerson said Wickus traveled down the concrete overflow spillway, lost control, and crashed in a grassy area below the dam.
Torgerson said Wickus was injured as a result of the crash and he was transported to Gundersen Health System, in La Crosse, Wis. by Gundersen Tri-State Ambulance.
Assisting the Sheriff’s Office were the Viroqua Fire Department and Viroqua Emergency Medical Responders.
The Sheriff said Wickus was wearing a helmet.
The incident remains under investigation.
