Michigan woman arrested on drug charges, impaired driving, after striking Stoddard fire hydrant

STODDARD, Wis. – Vernon County Sheriff Roy Torgerson reports the arrest of Cynthia Sue Ostrander, 58, of Clay, Mich, as the result of a single-vehicle crash in the Village of Stoddard.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, on Friday, Dec. 6, at approximately 12 a.m., the Sheriff’s Office 911 Dispatch Center was notified that a motor vehicle struck a fire hydrant in the 300 block of North Main Street/ State Highway 35.  An investigation into the incident determined that Ostrander was driving south, went off the right side of the street, traveled over the curb and then struck the fire hydrant.

No injuries were reported.

Upon further investigation, Ostrander was taken into custody for an impaired driving-related offense and possession of methamphetamine.

Ostrander appeared in Vernon County Circuit Court late Friday afternoon and was released on a $2,500 signature bond.  She is due back in court on Jan. 28 at 1 p.m.  Formal charges will be sought through Vernon County District Attorney Angela Palmer-Fisher.

A charge is merely an accusation.  Ostrander is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

The incident remains under investigation by the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office.
