McIntosh Memorial Library of Viroqua will host author and avid fisherman Ted Rulseh for a special event on Thursday, June 5 at 5:30 p.m. in the library lobby. During the program attendees will hear stories from the authors new book “You Shoulda Been Here Last Week”, published by Cornerstone Press. The talk will feature humorous, heartfelt, and often surprising stories from Rulseh’s lifelong passion for fishing, including the unforgettable tale of the $100,000 bass.
Rulseh’s stories span decades of angling across Wisconsin’s lakes and rivers, capturing the triumphs, the quiet reflections, and the occasional misadventures that come with the territory. From Opening Day magic and father-daughter fishing moments to the quirky search for a lost antique lure and domestic debates over bait storage, his storytelling blends deep personal connection with the universal joys of life on the water.
“You’ll hear about the spousal strife over the keeping of live bait in the kitchen refrigerator,” said Rulseh, who lives with wife Noelle on Birch Lake in Oneida County. “I’ll talk about the moment my daughter Sonya really learned to fish, the search for the elusive Luny Frog, the magic of Opening Day, and the absolutely true story of a very expensive fish.”
Ted Rulseh is also the author of A Lakeside Companion and Ripple Effects, both focused on understanding and protecting inland lakes. He writes the weekly column The Lake Where You Live for Northwoods newspapers and serves as president of the Oneida County Lakes and Rivers Association.
