The McIntosh Memorial Library will be celebrating National Dairy Month with a June Dairy Day event on the Courthouse lawn in Viroqua. The all-ages celebration is scheduled for Saturday, June 21 from 10:00-2:00.
During the event there will be a petting zoo featuring local farm animals such as cows, goats and chickens.
“This is a great opportunity for local children to learn about the various farm animals located in Vernon County. Participants can meet the farmers and touch the animals” said Emilia Jury Youth Services Director of the McIntosh Memorial Library.
In addition, Theresa Lepke, the Dairy Ambassador for Vernon County will be in attendance along with a food truck on the grounds.
June Dairy Month was formed to distribute extra milk during the warm months of summer. The commemoration was established in 1937 by grocer organizations sponsoring “National Milk Month.” By 1939, June became the official “dairy month” and is still celebrated today.
