Viroqua Area Schools will announced they will honor retired educator Kenneth Deaver with induction into the district’s Excellence in Education Wall of Recognition. The ceremony will be held Saturday, Oct. 25, at 11 a.m. in the high school/middle school library. Deaver is the 17th individual to receive the honor.
A Viroqua High School graduate, Deaver grew up on a dairy farm south of town and began his teaching career at De Soto Middle School in 1963. He joined Viroqua Middle School in 1969, where he taught until his retirement in 2002.
In addition to his classroom work, Deaver coached for 30 years and organized the sixth-grade spring camping trip. He earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in secondary education from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
Deaver’s community service includes volunteering with the Vernon County Fair Board and coordinating Vernon County Toys for Tots.
The Wall of Excellence recognizes individuals who have contributed to the success of Viroqua Area Schools through their achievements, character and service.
