Juvenile driver injured in crash reported via IPhone crash detection system

VIROQUA, Wis. – The Vernon County Sheriff’s Office reports they were notified of a car crash by a juvenile drivers Iphone auto crash detection feature on Saturday. According the Sheriff’s Office they received the notice of the crash around 4 p.m. and responded to a location on Nustad Road.

An accident report shows a 16-year-old female was traveling west on Nustad Road when she
attempted to negotiate a curve, but was unsuccessful. The report states the driver drove into the ditch and attempted to get the vehicle back on the roadway, but over-corrected. The vehicle entered the ditch again and overturned. The operator was able to remove her seat-belt and exit the vehicle.

The driver was transported to Vernon Memorial Healthcare, in Viroqua, WI, by Gundersen Tri-State Ambulance.

Assisting the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office were the Westby First Responders and Gundersen Tri-State Ambulance.

According to Apple their crash detection feature on the Iphone takes multiple factors into account including GPS to infer high speeds, microphone activity for the sounds of a crash, a barometer to detect pressure if the airbags are deployed, and even Bluetooth and CarPlay to inform your device that you’re in a car.
