Horse buggy accident results in injury to 8-year-old Amish boy

VIROQUA, Wis. – Vernon County Sheriff Roy Torgerson reports that on Friday, July 7th, at approximately 9:00 p.m., the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an incident involving a horse-drawn vehicle “buggy” on private property, along County Road NN, rural Viroqua, in the town of Franklin.

The report states that an 8-year-old Amish child was at play on the roof of the buggy while it was parked in a private driveway along the east side of County Road NN, just north of Getter Road.  Another child was seated in the buggy and the horse took off abruptly for a short distance and stopped.  The child was thrown from the top of the buggy and momentarily became unconscious.  Initial reports were that he may have been run over, but it did not appear that occurred.  The patient declined transport.

Responding to the scene were the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office, Viroqua Fire Department, Viroqua Emergency Responders, and Ocooch Mountain Rescue.
