Hillsboro Police say suspicious vehicle not a threat, conducting legitimate business

HILLSBORO, Wis. – The Hillsboro Police Department reports an investigation following numerous reports of suspicious a vehicle in the city shows the vehicle was conducting legitimate business and there is no threat to the public.

A statement released by the Police Department says on Monday, May 5, the Hillsboro Police Department took a report of a suspicious vehicle that had been driving slowly taking pictures of residential properties in the city. The vehicle was described as a mid-2000’s silver Honda Accord with Minnesota license plates. Over the course of the next few days, more reports were made to the Hillsboro Police Department and on local social media pages, resulting in city wide concern and speculation. This community notification is being disseminated to provide factual information about this incident.

With assistance from the Village of Wonewoc Police Department and the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office, officers with the Hillsboro police Department were able to obtain the vehicles
license plate, identify who was operating the vehicle, and determine that their presence in the
City of Hillsboro was for legitimate purposes.

The report goes on to say, to be as transparent as possible, while at the same time allowing for the privacy of the individual that was conducting their legitimate and legal business operations, the Hillsboro Police Department will disclose that the individual operating the Honda Accord was doing business for a company called “Mortgage Bankers Field Services”. The investigation ultimately led officers to determine that no criminal activity had taken place, and that there is no safety concern for city residents.

The Hillsboro Police Department says it encourages city residents to always report suspicious activities.
