Gov. Evers releases statement on lawsuit to stop Trump Administration from disclosing Wisconsinites’ sensitive information and data

Wisconsin late last week joined lawsuit against Trump Administration aimed at protecting Wisconsinites’ Social Security numbers, bank account information, and other sensitive personal details

MADISON, Wis. — Gov. Tony Evers released a statement regarding a lawsuit brought by a multi-state coalition, including Wisconsin, last week against the Trump Administration aimed at protecting Wisconsinites’ Social Security numbers, bank account information, and other sensitive personal details from unauthorized access:

“Wisconsinites expect the federal government to treat their Social Security numbers, bank account information, and other sensitive personal details with the highest level of protection and confidentiality—and that obligation doesn’t go out the window just because Elon Musk says it should.

“Giving political appointees access to our most personal information like this is illegal. That’s plain as day.”

Wisconsin joined a lawsuit last week that asserts that the Trump administration illegally provided Elon Musk and the so-called “Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)” unauthorized access to the Treasury Department’s central payment system, and therefore to Wisconsinites’ most sensitive personal information, including bank account details and Social Security numbers. The lawsuit aims to stop the Trump Administration’s new policy that illegally grants DOGE, Musk, and others access to Wisconsinites’ confidential information and the U.S. Treasury’s payment systems.

Early Saturday morning, a federal judge issued an emergency order temporarily blocking DOGE from accessing sensitive Treasury Department data such as Social Security and bank account numbers for millions of Americans.

  • I voted for President Trump as a majority of Wisconsinites did. I did not vote for Tony Evers to waste our tax dollars on frivolous lawsuits. Time to get rid of a governor out of touch with his electorate. Impeachment in Wisconsin?

  • Trump has gone too far! We don’t want our tax dollars going to purchase Gaza. We don’t want ANYTHING to do with it! And, who is holding the Trump team responsible? We can’t believe what they are saying…they just want our tax dollars going in their pockets
