VIROQUA, Wis. – Vernon County Sheriff Roy Torgerson reports a UTV crash occurred on
Sunday afternoon, August 18, at approximately 3:45 p.m., in the town of Viroqua.
A 14-year-old from rural Viroqua was operating a (side-by-side) UTV, traveling east on
Upper Maple Dale Road and failed to negotiate a curve to the right. The UTV tipped
onto its left side, and came to rest along the edge of the roadway.
The operator, a 15-year-old passenger from Stueben, Wis., a 14-year-old passenger
from Gays Mills, Wis., and a 14-year-old passenger from Soldiers Grove, Wis. were all
treated at Vernon Memorial Healthcare, in Viroqua, WI. By late Sunday evening, all the
injured were released.
Responding to the scene with the Sheriff’s Office were the Viroqua Police Department,
Viroqua Fire Department, Viroqua Emergency Medical Responders and two units from
Gundersen Tri-State Ambulance. Gundersen Air was initially requested, but re-routed to
the Viroqua Municipal Airport, and later cancelled.
Neither seat belts nor helmets were in use.
The crash remains under investigation.
