CASHTON, Wis. — Emergency crews worked for more than an hour to free a driver trapped in a milk tanker that rolled over Wednesday afternoon on Highway 33 in Monroe County, according to a report from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash happened around 3:40 p.m. near Oklahoma Avenue in the Town of Jefferson, just outside Cashton. The tanker, driven by a 22-year-old man from Florida, was traveling eastbound when it failed to negotiate a curve, left the roadway and tipped into a ditch.

Cashton First Responders and fire personnel used specialized equipment to extricate the driver, who was then taken by ambulance to a local hospital. His name has not been released.
Authorities said the rollover spilled about 3,000 gallons of milk and 100 gallons of diesel fuel. Crews worked to contain the liquids to prevent them from reaching a nearby creek.
Highway 33 was closed for more than two hours while emergency crews cleared the scene. A delayed recovery of the vehicle is scheduled for Thursday afternoon, and the highway will be partially closed starting around 1 p.m. as heavy equipment is used to remove the tanker.
The Sheriff’s Office said it was assisted by the Monroe County 911 Communications Center, Monroe County Emergency Management, Cashton Police, Cashton First Responders, Cashton Fire Department, Tri-State Ambulance and the Monroe County Highway Department.
