ELROY, Wis. (AP) — A 51-year-old Elroy man died after a motorcycle crash Saturday evening in rural Vernon County, authorities said.
The Vernon County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were notified around 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, of a motorcycle crash on County Road W west of Willow Road in the Town of Hillsboro.
According to Sheriff Roy Torgerson and Vernon County Coroner Betty Nigh, Joseph Allen Sugden of rural Elroy was riding his motorcycle east on County Road W when he failed to negotiate a right-hand curve. The motorcycle left the roadway on the left side, struck a perpendicular field road and became airborne, ejecting Sugden.
The motorcycle came to rest in a soybean field several feet from where it left the roadway, authorities said.
Sugden was transported by Hillsboro Area Ambulance to Emplify Health by Gundersen Hillsboro Area, also known as St. Joseph’s Hospital, where he later died.
Authorities said Sugden was wearing boots and long pants but was not wearing a helmet or coat.
The Hillsboro Fire Department and Hillsboro Area Ambulance assisted at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office and Vernon County Coroner’s Office.
In a statement, Torgerson thanked emergency responders for their efforts and extended condolences to Sugden’s family and others affected by the crash.
