Drug arrest made following traffic stop in Viroqua

VIROQUA, Wis. – Vernon County Sheriff Roy Torgerson reports that on Saturday, October 28 at 3:39 p.m., a deputy sheriff conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on West Broadway Street (State Highway 56) in the city of Viroqua.  Sheriff Torgerson says the operator of the vehicle was identified as Michelle J. Hays, 46, of Viroqua, WI.  During the traffic stop, Sheriff’s K-9 Dax was utilized and alerted to the presence of trained odors. According the sheriff’s report during a search of the vehicle officers located methamphetamine, marijuana, and numerous items of drug paraphernalia. 

Hays was arrested and transported to the Sheriff’s Office Detention Center and booked for possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession with intent to deliver THC <=200 grams. Formal charges will be sought through Vernon County District Attorney Angela Palmer-Fisher. 

The Viroqua Police Department assisted the Sheriff’s Office.  

The incident remains under investigation.
