Douglas Elling Mikkelson

FERRYVILLE, WI – Douglas Elling Mikkelson, age 71, of Ferryville, WI, passed away in the comfort of his home with family by his side on Monday, April 6, 2026.  He was born in Viroqua, WI, on September 30, 1954 the son of Elling and Nancy (Bell) Mikkelson.  Doug attended De Soto Schools, where he graduated in 1972.  On February 15, 1975, he married Rosemarie Parrish and over their 51 years of marriage they built a life together and had two children: Jennifer Marie and Brian Douglas.  Doug worked for Burlington Northern Sante Fe Railroad for 40 years before retiring in 2014.  He always had a love for hunting, cutting wood, and the Minnesota Vikings.  His most special times were those spent with his children and grandchildren, elk hunting in Colorado, and hog hunting in Oklahoma.  Doug spent many years helping his dad, and then his son, on the farm.

Doug is survived by his wife, Rose; his mother, Nancy; children: Jennifer (Tom) Kelley and Brian Mikkelson; four grandchildren: Jossie (Jordan) Eidsness, Lila (Bradley) Burnett, and Cade and Alice Mikkelson; siblings: Cathy Fischer, Russ (Kathy) Mikkelson, and Curt (Sara) Mikkelson; many nieces and nephews; and his in-laws: Jayne (Curt) Niebuhr, Susanna (Larry) Gullickson, Julie (Dave) Beitlich, Lisa (Jan) Grimsled, and Dave (Deb) Parrish. 

Doug was preceded in death by his dad, Elling; and his grandparents, Alfred and Alice Mikkelson.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at Utica Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in the Utica Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday, April 11, 2026 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Popp Funeral and Cremation Services in Viroqua has the honor of being entrusted with his services.
