DNR monitoring manure spill in Trempealeau County

Feb. 25, 2026

MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is responding to a recently reported manure spill in Trempealeau County. Runoff has impacted two unnamed tributaries to Beaver Creek.

On Feb. 23, in response to concerns received via the confidential warden hotline, staff conducted a site visit and observed manure running off snow-covered farm fields near the intersection of Oak Ridge Drive and Linden Road in the town of Gale.

Dead fish, including brook trout, were collected from the impacted tributary streams on Feb. 24.

DNR staff are on site and working closely with local conservation staff to monitor the situation as the farm works to address the discharge.

The DNR reminds farmers and agricultural producers to avoid applying manure during forecasted high-risk runoff periods. Check the Wisconsin Manure Management Runoff Risk Advisory Forecast before applying nutrients.
