The McIntosh Memorial Library will host an enriching evening of art and culture in the program room on Thursday, October 17, from 5:00 p.m.- 7:00 p.m. Local artist Shoua Yang of CeevTsegPress will lead a free printmaking workshop titled “Cultural Relief Printmaking.”
Participants will explore the fascinating history of relief printing while gaining insight into the significance of Hmong cultural identity. This interactive workshop offers the unique opportunity to engage with Shoua, view a collection of his relief prints rich with cultural narratives, and learn how to print.
Registration for the program is required as space is limited. Visit mcintoshmemoriallibrary.com under Adult Programs to complete the registration process.
Shoua Yang is a talented relief printmaker specializing in woodcuts. As a refugee who resettled in the United States in the early 90s, his work reflects his journey of self-identity and Hmong heritage. Through printmaking, Shoua has found a voice to create dialogues about the Hmong diaspora, making his art both personal and culturally significant.
This workshop is part of the Art and Driftless Region 2024 Regional Read, a collaborative initiative among the La Crescent Public Library, La Crosse County Library, La Crosse Public Library, Winding Rivers Library System, and the Winona Public Library. The program is supported in part by a grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board, with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts.
