Sept. 16, 2025

MENOMONIE, Wis. — Authorities are investigating a check fraud incident involving a suspect who attempted to cash a counterfeit check at Westconsin Credit Union, located at 2414 Hils Court.

Abrham Lee Boebel, 21, reported that he was recruited by three unknown individuals at a Salvation Army in La Crosse to cash fraudulent checks made out in his name. Surveillance and investigative data identified the suspect vehicle as a white 2025 Toyota RAV4 with Minnesota plates SJJ-913, rented by Lawrence Jermaine Kloc, 35, of Daytona Beach, Florida.

Boebel positively identified Kloc from a photo ID and stated that Kloc had flown into Minneapolis-St. Paul before renting the vehicle. License plate tracking placed the RAV4 in West Salem and Onalaska on September 13, and in Eau Claire and Altoona on September 14 and 15.

Law enforcement agencies are advised to stop and hold the vehicle or suspect if encountered. Agencies with similar cases involving Boebel, Kloc, or the RAV4 are urged to contact Lt. Chad Mroczenski of the Menomonie Police Department at (715) 231-8517 or mroczenskic@menomonie-wi.gov.

This alert is authorized for public dissemination and covers the West Central, South Central, and Southwest regions of Wisconsin.
