Presentation is part of the Conservation on Tap series
Oct 16, 2024
Valley Stewardship Network will present “Climate Change in the Driftless Area” for their November Conservation on Tap on Tuesday, November 12 at the Fortney Hotel in Viroqua.
Joan Bunbury, Professor of Geography and Environmental Science at UW – La Crosse, will discuss how the Driftless Area has become warmer and wetter over the past several decades. Seasonal changes include increased temperatures, particularly in winter and spring, with fewer days of extreme cold. Precipitation has increased with more frequent, extreme rainfall events during the summer interspersed with periods of drought. Future climate scenarios suggest that these trends will continue.
Joan’s research is based on information stored in lake sediments to reconstruct past climate and past environmental conditions.
The Conservation on Tap presentation will take place on Tuesday, November 12, at 6:00 pm, at The Historic Fortney, 100 N. Main St., Viroqua, WI. Conservation on Tap is a free presentation series by experts on various aspects of Driftless area ecology and conservation. The goal of the series is to increase knowledge, connection to, and awareness of current conservation efforts and research.
